The issuer of VIABUY prepaid Mastercards, Dock Financial, has filed for insolvency, leading to the complete shutdown of all VIABUY services. This has significant implications for all VIABUY customers, who must take immediate action to secure their funds and find alternative banking solutions.

The Context: Insolvency of the Parent Company

The termination of VIABUY’s services is a direct result of its parent company, Dock Financial, filing for insolvency. As the financial institution behind VIABUY, its insolvency means it can no longer support the prepaid card and e-money account operations. Consequently, all VIABUY accounts are being closed.

Key Dates and Deadlines: A Timeline for Action

Customers need to be aware of the following critical dates:

  • June 14, 2024: As of this date, all payment functionalities with the VIABUY prepaid Mastercard have been disabled. This includes online purchases, in-store transactions, and ATM withdrawals.
  • August 10, 2024: This is the final deadline for all customers to have transferred their entire remaining balance from their VIABUY accounts. After this date, accessing funds will become more complicated and may incur additional fees.

Required Steps for VIABUY Customers

To ensure a smooth transition and avoid any loss of funds, all VIABUY customers should take the following steps without delay:

  1. Secure Your Remaining Balance: The most urgent action is to transfer any remaining funds from your VIABUY account to an alternative bank account. This can be done via a SEPA bank transfer. Note that ATM withdrawals are no longer possible.
  2. Update Payment Information: If you have any recurring payments, subscriptions, or direct debits linked to your VIABUY card, you must immediately update your payment details with the respective service providers to avoid interruptions and potential penalties.
  3. Find an Alternative: With the closure of VIABUY, customers will need to find a new banking or prepaid card provider. There are numerous alternatives available offering similar services, such as Revolut or Finom, which provide prepaid cards and online banking features.

What Happens to Funds Not Transferred in Time?

VIABUY has indicated that after the August 10, 2024 deadline, a process will be established for the repayment of any remaining balances. However, this process may involve additional fees for the safekeeping of funds and for manual repayment. It is therefore strongly advised to withdraw all funds before the deadline to avoid these extra charges and potential delays.
