How To Get Your Luko Insurance  – What To Do

Luko offers 3 home content insurance packages, each with a different extent of coverage: the Luko Basic Plan, Luko Plus, and Luko Premium. You can also purchase add-ons to extend your coverage offerings (see below).

To get your offer follow these steps:

  1. Go to Luko’s Home Contents Insurance Page
  2. Click “Get a Quote”
  3. Enter your postal code
  4. Enter the size of your flat
  5. Set the maximum insured amount
  6. Choose to upgrade to Plus or Premium
  7. Choose add-ons (gross negligence, broken glass, bicycle)

In general, the insurance quote depends on the value of the goods insured. This quote of coverage (Deckungssumme) is the maximum sum paid by the insurance in the event of loss or damage. There are two ways to calculate this sum:

  • A flat rate covering a certain sum according to the size of your flat or house or for example 500 Euro per square meter. This calculation is common since it is simple and requires little effort.
  • An individual rate according to the detailed value of your belongings. In this case, you make a list of all your belongings and sum up their values. This effort could be worth taking when you live in a spacious flat but have comparatively few belongings of value or the exact opposite is the case, i.e. small flat, but valuable belongings.

For example, if you live in a flat with 50 sqm of living space, you will get an offer with an insurance sum of 36,000 Euro. Depending where you live in Germany the monthly fee varies: e.g. Berlin: 5.01 Euro, Hamburg: 3.82 Euro, Düsseldorf: 5.21 Euro, Frankfurt: 3.82 Euro.

Luko Basic Plan – Benefits

Luko covers the financial cost of repairing or replacing home contents in the case of fire damage, water damage, storm damage, hail damage, theft, and burglary.

Home contents that are covered under Luko’s basic plan are most personal items and home furnishing (e.g. furniture, carpets, clothing, electronic and kitchen devices, cash, jewellery).

If you can show them that this is not the case, Luko promises to meet whatever service other insurers are offering you.

Please note that your bike is not covered under this plan if it is not inside your home. For full bike coverage make sure you add additional bike insurance as an add-on.

Add-ons:

You also have the option to add-on additional insurance for gross negligence, bicycle, and broken glass. See below for additional details.

Gross negligence

Negligence (in German: Fahrlässigkeit) is the failure to take care of something that you are responsible for. This can be inattention or carelessness.

Definition: Gross negligence is the violation of your own interests to an unusually high degree of the required due diligence and the non-observance of what should have been evident to anyone in the present case. For example you leave your flat and don’t close the door behind you, your bathtub overflows because you weren’t paying attention, or you don’t care about your two-year old playing with candles and matches.

This add-on covers gross negligence within the covered risks. It ensures that you are reimbursed up to 100% of your max sum even if an accident was initiated by you. Without the add-on it’s only up to 10 % of your insured sum.

Bicycle

This add-on covers you up to € 5,000. Your bike is insured, as well as that of your household members outside your home. Just choose your preferred insured sum from 500 up to 5,000 Euro and if something happens, Luko will reimburse the value of your bike.

Your bike is insured against theft and vandalism anywhere in the world. The full original purchase price will be reimbursed, including stolen locks and parts.

Broken glass

This add-on to your home contents insurance covers many glass items in your home up to the insured sum. For example these: Glass furniture, Building glazing (e.g. windows), Glass ceramic or induction cooktops, Aquariums and terrariums.

Not covered are Optical glasses, Dishes, Solar panels, Displays of electronic devices .

In the event of damage, Luko will replace these items either completely or with items of the same type and quality. This also includes the costs for delivery and assembly (e.g. replacement of a window).
