PayPal is a common payment option in German online shops and around the world. You can pay your online order within seconds or send money to friends and family. PayPal is completely free to set up. A German PayPal account is a very convenient and secure way of paying your online order or sending money to friends and family. Simply connect your credit card and/or your bank account and start paying in a very discrete way (the recipient can only see your email address).
PayPal is even the preferred mode of payment for many online transactions, e.g. on eBay.de or eBay Kleinanzeigen, where people can sell their goods in private listings (similar to Craigslist).
However, we recommend to first open a proper German bank account and then link a Paypal account. Bank account in Germany are government-secured, so all amounts up to 100,000 Euro in a bank account are secured and would be paid back to you even if the bank goes bankrupt.
